Part 1 of 2:

WoW! I have been away for far too long! (so sorry!)

OK, so 1st I'd really like to THANK EVERYONE who's viewed and made a great effort to comment on the forums, twitter or facebook on any videos I've posted about progress on this project! THANK YOU! You've all propped me up, propelled me to keep going and when I tell you I really need that, please believe me!!

Now, I want to just go back a few steps *cough* I mean weeks. I was in the studio and uploaded a video to twitter, so It went to a TwitVid file. Here are the links:

3 weeks ago: @AspiringOne Back in the studio today working on the @JasonCastro Fans Community Art Project for charity! Check it out! http://www.twitvid.com/S4IOA

1 Month Ago: @AspiringOne Working in the studio today! Check out what's happening! @JasonCastro Fans Community Art Project for charity http://www.twitvid.com/DLTDV

Since this time, several things happened that have prevented me from going back into the studio. Two being that class was canceled & 1 time, I just couldn't get there. I was really struggling and didnt have it in me to pack my stuff, get in the car, and go. Meanwhile, I feel & know that I'm letting y'all down when I'm not working on the project. Life takes over, and there are other things going on.

Cont....

Part 2 of 2:

So, the plan is this....

I may not be able to use the studio any more on Saturdays. Its not confirmed yet, so we'll see. Either way... this is getting insane that I'm not working at home (the ultimate goal).

Now, feel free to pelt me with Rocks and Garbage.

So, the last I worked on it was a minor thing, Im posting the pic here of a "Lattice Work" of a beautiful chrysanthemum of one of rainbowlite's flower submissions. I cut a full 12" x 12" lattice. The one in the photo is 4" x 4".

http://twitpic.com/1i4rum & http://twitpic.com/1i7r2j

Aside from that I've been "percolating" like a manic mad woman & when that happens, Im like a sponge that never get's fully saturated. I just keep soaking it all up. I'm not sure where it will "get" me with the project, but sometimes Its all I can do.

I thank you all for your continued support! I will update you as soon as something is created that I can show you and feel good about!

PROJECT UPDATE:

Hey Y'all!

This is actually a week late! I was in the studio last week and posted this on twitter:

"Back in the studio! Check out the @JasonCastro Fans Community Art Project for charity #jasoncastromusic #music http://twitvid.com/DLTDV"

You'll see a video of the studio with some of the latest Artist Proofs as well as the varied slightly originals.

I had to leave the studio last week at 5pm and this week, class was canceled. Just as well as I had a series of back injections Friday and I'm already needing to get up from sitting.

So, pace is slow but somewhat constant. Hope you enjoy the little vid.

Stay tuned!

Back for another...

PROJECT UPDATE:

Hey CastroFans!

Got into the studio this past Saturday and kicked out almost 2 complete pieces! Im getting there... building a nice collection.

Now things have shifted a bit and I think we'll be able to auction the originals and the artist proofs! Ive made an effort to make both just a little different so I think it should work out.

Im still trying to set up my home studio and get the ball rolling to do work at home. its really hard for me, but Im moving in that direction.

We'll need to start gearing up for the auction and deciding how and for what we're doing it for. Meaning, what website(s) and for what charity or charities.

Please feel free to comment! There's no discussion going on here.

Hope y'all are having a great summer and have a great week ahead!

Stay tuned!

PROJECT UPDATE:

Well, finally! I had a decent day in the studio and worked on the 1st 2 finals for the auctions.

I think they came out pretty well, very close to the "Artist Proofs" or "Proofs". I did make an effort to change one in color scheme in case we decide we want to auction the proofs too.

I posted 2 pics to twitpic and tweeted about it on Saturday, but I've been too busy to post here.

"Finalizing @rainbowlite's originals for the @JasonCastro Community Art Project for #charity http://twitpic.com/1w8jbo"

and

"Finalizing a beautiful piece soon 4 sale by @rainbowlite 4 @JasonCastro Fans Community Art Project for #charity! http://twitpic.com/1w8lho"

Hoping to continue the progress!
Stay tuned!

Hello CastroFans!

PROJECT UPDATE

Last week I twittered this:

"Painting my heart out in the studio today for the @JasonCastro Fans Community Art Project for charity! Feels gr8! http://twitpic.com/1k0t0b"

... and just to let you know, I haven't made much progress since. I did go to the studio last week and did get A LOT done! But this week was a complete bust. I feel I am dealing with some personal things, I wont bore you with the deets, but I think all of this gets in the way of my making some decent art.

All I was able to do was cut a few flowers with my exacto knife and re-paint a background about 4 times. I should've stopped after the 2nd time and known it just wasn't happening for me!!

I guess you have non-productive days in the studio so you can appreciate the productive ones, I just wish the non-productive days were few and far between.

Thanks everyone for your continued patience.....

Aspiring_2's picture

Wow! its been a while. For anyone checking in here, I was pretty side tracked for the last month with a surgical removal of the effects of a Brown Recluse Spider bite. That & revolving guests coming to FL to visit. Fun fun.

I tried to have a good and productive art day yesterday, but it really seemed as if all odds were against me!

I had studio/independent study time scheduled. I got a call from my instructor saying she couldn't make it due to a death in the family, but we students were free to go in as usual.

I went to class & arrived to find a room full of people in the studio. The school had scheduled a workshop, but never let anyone in my class, including my instructor know, so we were basically "homeless" for the day.

After an hour of phone calls to fellow students & running all over the school looking for an opened air conditioned studio with half decent light, I tried to settle in [aka not have a nervous breakdown].

At the 5 minute mark I could tell this was a going to be a complete non-art day for many reasons, the foremost being a classmate needing constant attention, then a 2nd studio room change, forgetting my magnifying glasses so I could see, etc...and on and on it went!

In the midst of the 2 room changes, the selfish, needy & noisy/rambling classmate and the lack of glasses, etc., I did manage to finish hand cutting the 3/10/10 noted lattice. I came home feeling as if I'd wasted the day, wishing I'd spent it outside in the beautiful weather. What I realized later is the very valuable lessons I'd learned: Pay attention to my "gut" and cut out when I see the art day is unsalvageable, especially when a classmate is acting in a very selfish & disruptive way.

At least I was able to do something today...

At this link you will see a copy and enlargement of a partial submission by our talented rainbowlite! I plan to use this in some capacity for one of the pieces.

Thanks so much MrsSss for stopping in! I've been a little busy lately and haven't been able to make it here. Thank you for your support!

Update: The project's on hold for a while until I heal from a Brown Recluse Spider bite on my left calf that put me into the hospital for 6 days with MRSA and 2 surgeries to remove damaged tissue that the spider's venom destroyed. Hoping Im on the mend now, will know more the end of this week!

Thanks everyone for your continued patience!

Hi Aspy!
Thanks for updating us on your progress. I'm excited to see your finished proof(s). I love how you're adding transparencies -- i.e., the colored tissue, white fabric, etc. and can appreciate the time you're taking with each piece until you're 100% happy with it. It's good that you didn't set any deadlines for yourself because I think your end result would be very different.
JUST KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING and give us another peek from time to time!
DH Luv,
Mrs. Sss

PROJECT UPDATE:

I just realized that I haven't posted this week's update!

I got down to business and completed the last proof (seen in the video) and felt pretty energized to begin Proof #9. This one is going to be awesome!

I am planning to hand cut lattice-work or a stencil and cover the entire page, then collage on top of it. Its got a good direction and is really awesome.

I stopped part way to reflect on the fact that I once again veered off course and was supposed to begin painting the originals for the auction! I was so into the cutting of the stencil work, I decided to follow my urges and "get'r done!".

Things will re-direct this weekend when I return to class to work more on the project.

Moving right along ....

Stay tuned!

PROJECT UPDATE:

Good evening all!

For all you peek seekers, I think you will enjoy (or hopefully enjoy this)...

There's a Castro Fans Community Art Project video processing to be viewed at higher quality on my YouTube channel at this time. I think it gives a fairly good update to how things are going at this point!

You will see other things on the channel too.

As always, I welcome your feedback!

PROJECT UPDATE:

Hello everyone out there in CastroVille:

I went to my art class today and did some decent work on the proofs.

I decided I'd paint up several (10 I think) "grounds" or paper with paint on it, to serve as a background for several future proofs that will be done. Im getting more efficient as more and more time passes! Learning what works and what doesn't.

So I have these "grounds" and then began my work on Proof #8. This one was a killer! All in colored pencil with black outlining on each of the pieces. I'm fairly certain the 2.5 hours I spent working on this piece will need to be a do over, and the piece will have to be completely re-done. What can I say, sometimes the work just does not come together. I will evaluate it further when I've had time away from looking at it and also then check it again.

Last week, although I never checked in with y'all, I finished a gorgeous Proof #7 to rave reviews from everyone who critiqued it for me! I'm really excited about it! Its definitely one of my favorites.

So we're moving along, although slowly, but its a large project so I hope you will be patient with me.

Stay Tuned!!

PROJECT UPDATE:

Hello everyone out there in CastroVille:

I went to my art class yesterday with the best of intentions. I got all set up, began editing my last proof I worked on 2 weeks ago and got completely distracted!!

My class mates had all brought in these amazing indian wood cut blocks (for stamping), antique printers lettering (for stamping), large circular hole punchers, small hand held hole punchers and stencils. Since they were only available for a limited time, I felt I had to regroup, put away my project materials and make use of these things while they were available.

I am working on several projects at a time you see and the Castro Fans project has been my #1 priority for several weeks, with the exception of the last week, and now this past class. I am trying to commit to clearing an area in my home this week and get really serious about working on this project outside of class since I feel it will never be completed if I dont!

I thank you all for your continued patience, and will make every effort to update you and let you know how its all going, just as I have been.

Stay tuned!!

Aspiring's picture

Hi Everyone!

Just a note to let you know I've taken this past weekend's class to work on some of my own art, giving myself a little break from the project. When I do this, I have to admit, I always feel guilty Im not working on it hard or fast enough.

Sometimes with these breaks come times of creativity sparks so it can be a really positive thing.

Thanks so much for your patience!

Stay tuned! I'll be back at it by this Saturday! :)

Aspiring's picture

Hi RQ! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Because this discussion topic area doesnt really allow for photos like a forum would, you'd need to go to Castrocopia's Off Topics threads. There you will see my thread with the same title, Castro Fans Community Art Project.

You'll see I was hemming and hawing (sp?) about posting pics of the "artist proofs", but then did post for feedback. You will see your "sneak peeks" there.

Here's the link:
http://www.castrocopia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=590

Let me know what you think either here or there! I'd love your feedback!

Thanks!

rosequeen49_2's picture

hi Aspy, looking forward to seeing the finished projects, do we get any sneak peeks?

Aspiring's picture

Hi Everyone!

Well, I'm kinda stressin'!

I went to the studio today and after my instructor's approval of Proof #5, I began working on Proof #6. I really like this set of images from contributing artists, but I worry that I'm making the final products more "me" than the contributors and I need to be really mindful to preserve their art. I'm thoughtful about the process is all, but it does stress me out! I dont want to disappoint!

Proof #6 is 95% done!

Stay tuned!...

Aspiring's picture

UPDATE ON THE PROJECT:

Well, it was a nice break from my art, I had about 2 weeks off for the Xmas & New Years holiday. Hope everyone had a good one this year and Santa was good to y'all!

I got back to work and spent Saturday's class working on Proof #5. This one was a toughie, but I think I've got the hang of it. There were lots of varied and opposite type colors and it was quite a challenge. Purples, Greens, Reds, Blues. The red-green combo always throws me off course. Its a hard combo for me to not make look "Christmassy". I hope it can be deemed sell-able and pretty. That's always the goal. I will review it again this week and bring it back to class next week and maybe improve on it some, then its on to Proof #6! I figure while I have the stamina and mojo, I should work on the proofs. Once these are done, it shouldn't take me that long to work on the originals.

Also, I really need to get organized with everything from the project and am hoping this begins this week!

Stay tuned...

Hi Lakendra!

Thanks so much for your response!

At this time sending in flowers is pretty much over. We've got a ton to work with and the project is in full swing - in creation.
If anyone does want to send me their work, please contact me at aspiring1@comcast.net

Lots of flowers have been represented, although I dont remember seeing flowers like Hyacinth, Bird of Paradise, Iris to name a few.

lakendra's picture

Happy New Year Dear Aspy!
Just a note to let you know I am working away on my "bop" and thank you from the depths of my soul for inspiring me.

This is a great project and I hope many will send in their flowers so that you have more than enough to work with. Is there any particular flower that isn't represented so far?

Hope you are staying warm as it is soooo cold here in Jersey. My water color freezes before it hits the papaer! Ha Ha!

Aspiring's picture

Thanks for your response MrsSss! I really appreciate your feedback!

Stay Tuned!

Hi, Aspy! I haven't forgotten your request and my promise. Today should be my last day of entertaining, then I should have some quiet time for a few days...

My personal preference for a charity is to give to folks in need in our own back yard. We don't have to look far to see the losses of jobs, homes, ability to take care of one's family...
...but I'm okay with whatever the majority would like.

Take Care, and do tell more about the artist proofs!
Happy New Year!

Hi everyone...
Well I mean anyone?

Is anyone even following or lurking here? Am I just wasting my time?

PLEASE I am respectfully requesting that if your eyes even see this sentence, you will drop me a comment, ANY comment so I know you are watching this discussion.

I want to update you on the artist proofs, but want to see what response I get to this comment first...stay tuned?!

Thank you!
~Aspy
